KLegal makes first partner hire since McGrigors merger

KLegal has hired Duncan Buchanan, a pensions partner from Garretts

He is the first partner hire since KLegal and McGrigor Donald merged earlier this year.
The appointment fills a hole in KLegal’s practice, which until now has not had a pensions capability. Buchanan has been a Garretts partner for five and a half years. He said the majority of his Andersen clients would move across with him, which was confirmed by KLegal managing partner Nick Holt.
Buchanan has a broad pensions practice, acting for trustees of companies just below the FTSE 350 on money purchase and final salary schemes. He also acts for independent trustees of insolvent companies and for offshore companies. Buchanan will move in June. No other Garretts pension lawyers are included.
Despite the collapse of Andersen, Buchanan said he was attracted by the opportunity to move to another multidisciplinary practice (MDP). Holt said: “We’ve been looking for a London-based partner with pensions expertise for some time and are delighted to be appointing Duncan to fill that gap. Coming from an MDP himself, I’m sure that he’ll be a great cultural fit.”
