Perry Noble will replace Ruth Markland as Asia managing partner for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, The Lawyer understands.

Ruth Markland, Freshfields Asia managing partner, is to quit the firm. Partner Perry Noble is being relocated from London as her replacement and will be based in Hong Kong from September 2003.

Markland’s future plans are not yet known.

Nobe said: “This is an excellent opportunity for me. During Ruth’s time as managing partner the firm has developed an excellent reputation in Asia. I am looking forward to building on our strengths.”

Noble, who has been a partner at Freshfields since 1996, specialises in project finance and banking work, particularly in the telecoms and infrastructure sectors. Before joining Freshfields in December 1992, Noble worked in Hong Kong and has spent considerable time in the region since then.
