Charlie Wijeratna, the commercial and legal director of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (Locog), has dumped his legal role to focus on a new role as commercial director.
Locog is reorganising and will seek a new legal director to lead the seven-lawyer team.
“This is part of a wider change in the management team,” Wijeratna told The Lawyer, “It’s the last phase of changing from a bid company to a staging company.”
Wijeratna will be involved in the commercial department trying to raise £2bn revenues through corporate sponsorship, tickets and local sponsorship.
“I will be responsible for negotiating and closing deals and making sure the deals get done properly,” said Wijeratna.
Locog is looking at law firms for second-tier sponsorship. The firm would have association rights and marketing rights in return for advising Locog on legal issues.
