Swedish independent firm Maqs is merging with one of the country’s oldest shipping boutiques, Morssing & Nycander, to help it compete in the increasingly competitive Swedish market.

The merger will go live in the New Year and will boost Maqs by seven lawyers. The new lawyers will bring a practice focused on maritime and transportation law, insurance and construction and litigation and arbitration.

Morssing senior partner Lars Boman said: “The merger with Maqs will strengthen our possibilities to offer our clients a broader range of legal services than what’s possible today.”

Maqs is Sweden’s sixth-largest law firm and one of the country’s fastest growing. Over the last six years it has tripled in size, from 50 lawyers to its current 145.
