Tulkinghorn would like to raise a glass to Marks & Clerk, which recently won a trademark battle that allows Czech brewers Budejovicky Budvar to continue to use its registered trademark of Bud. The brand is written in a particular script that US brewers Anheuser-Busch claims leads to confusion with its own Budweiser brand and "Bud" abbreviation.

The trademark attorney firm argued that consumers use the term Bud to refer to both products, one a fizzy nonsense of a drink, the other a passable lager. So why is Tulkinghorn immersing himself in the day-to-day world of litigation? The fact that Marks & Clerk sent a large bottle of beer to Tulkinghorn obviously has absolutely nothing to do with it.
