Olswang: second redundancy round, 45 to go” />Olswang has launched a second redundancy consultation and is proposing to cut 45 jobs.
UK partners, fee earners and support staff, which number 618 including 55 trainees, are affected by the review, which will see the non-trainee headcount reduced by up to 8 per cent.
The reductions will be directed at areas worst affected by the global economic slowdown.
Senior Partner Mark Devereux (pictured) said: “Like everyone else in the UK and beyond, Olswang is not immune to the current global market situation. We have taken the difficult decision that we must reduce our staff numbers to ensure we remain a strong firm when conditions improve.
“We have today begun a consultation with our staff about this proposed change. The process will be fair and transparent, and we are confident that by making these savings Olswang will secure our future through the period of the current economic uncertainty and beyond.”
A spokesperson told The Lawyer that the staff would be offered redundancy packages beyond the statutory minimum requirements.
Olswang was one of the first UK 200 firms to make redundancies this economic downturn, with 10 real estate jobs cuts in November 2007. (TheLawyer.com, 16 November 2007).
