Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy has launched an office in Beijing to boost its Asian presence.

Milbank announced its decision to launch an office in Beijing, first revealed by The Lawyer (30 January), after the closure of its 10-lawyer Silicon Valley office.

The Beijing office, which was initially planned to launch in March, will be headed by Anthony Root, head of the firm’s corporate practice in Asia.

Root said: “Establishing Beijing operations is a natural extension of our existing financial services practice.”

He explained that the delay in the opening of the Beijing office was due to the firm being granted its China practising licence later than it first expected.

Root will be joined by global securities partner Edward Sun, who relocates from the Hong Kong office, along with six associates and two paralegals.
