Shearman & Sterling has unveiled its new global management team with German partner Georg Thoma and New York-based John Madden appointed co-managing partners of the firm.
Corporate partner Thoma established Shearman & Sterling’s German operation in 1991 and served as European managing partner from 1994 to 2000. He will continue in his role as managing partner of Germany.
Madden, also a corporate expert, was appointed managing partner of the firm’s New York office in 2004 and preceded Thoma as managing partner of Shearman’s European offices between 1991 and 1995.
Senior partner David Heleniak will remain senior partner, focusing on firm policy, strategic initiatives and client relationships.
Heleniak said: “Our international offices are central to our strategic business plan and Georg’s appointment will guarantee that the firm’s management continues to reflect its worldwide structure.”
