Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA) is planning to slash its panel for commercial litigation work from six firms to just two.
It is understood that six firms including, Davies Arnold Cooper, Berrymans Lace Mawer, Beachcroft Wansbroughs, Dibb Lupton Alsop, Herbert Smith advise RSA on commercial company claims.
But The Lawyer understands that RSA intends to streamline its panel in order to cut costs.
RSA, like other insurance firms, can tempt law firms into dropping hourly rates by offering them a larger amount of work.
A source says a reduction in the panel will give RSA greater control of the law firms left on it. “RSA works in close partnership with their suppliers generally,” says the source.
Peter Greenwood, UK claims manager at RSA, refuses to comment.
