In brief: Baileys seeks property firm merger

London firm Baileys Shaw & Gillett is looking to merge with a similar-sized firm to boost its reputation in its key practice areas. The firm, which has 22 partners and is strong in commercial property litigation, has had preliminary talks with a number of firms including 36-partner Wedlake Bell, a London-based practice which has a large property department. Baileys senior partner Peter Foster said: “We feel it's necessary to get rid of our image as a general practice and focus on specialist areas or groups.” He said at this stage several firms, including Wedlake Bell, had not been ruled in or out as possible merger partners.
