First for sole advocate in civil appeal

LONDON lawyer David Price claims to be the first solicitor advocate to have acted as the sole advocate within the civil division of the Courts of Appeal.

Price, of David Price & Co, appeared as advocate for the respondent in an appeal brought by the City of London Police.

The case followed Price’s client, Nigel Watts, being awarded £5,090 damages for false imprisonment.

Chair of the Solicitors’ Association of Higher Courts Advocates Paul Hampton said he could not remember any other solicitor advocates acting as sole advocates in the court’s civil division, but he was not sure that Price was the first.
