Lovells and Howrey Simon Arnold & White have ended a dispute between the British Airports Authority (BAA) and Ryanair respectively. Ryanair claimed BAA’s fuel levies were excessive, while BAA claimed Ryanair owed charges.
Both sides instructed heavy-hitting silks. Howrey brought in competition star Nicholas Green QC of Brick Court and One Essex Court’s Stephen Auld QC. Lovells used Fountain Court’s Michael Crane QC.
Under the terms of the settlement, BAA will reduce its fuel levy charge from 0.68p to 0.412p, saving Ryanair over £1m per year.
Meanwhile, Ryanair has paid BAA the money it had previously withheld. In return, BAA has withdrawn claims that the airline committed a breach of its contract.
