Canon Europe general counsel Gordon Stewart will be leaving the Japanese multinational to lead and develop a legal team at the UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council.
In his new role Stewart, who has been in-house with Canon for 16 years, will hold the position of director of legal services and will oversee an annual legal spend of £200,000.
“The council has a direction from the Government to have an economic agenda, to be commercially focused,” said Stewart.
“So my role will be to set up a legal function and to use my skills to achieve their strategic agenda.”
He will be joining the national research council at the end of October.
Canon is yet to find a replacement for Stewart, whose key accomplishments at Canon include creating its single pan-European legal team, which he has overseen for the past three years.
