Medical engineering and services group Huntleigh Technology has appointed Richard Newbery as legal director and company secretary

One of Newbery’s first tasks will be to review the company’s international advisers.
Huntleigh’s main legal advisers are Altheimer & Gray and SJ Berwin.
Newbery joins the company after six years at Capio Healthcare UK, which has moved its legal team to Sweden following its 2001 takeover by Swedish healthcare provider Capio.
Capio Healthcare UK
was formerly known as Community Hospitals Group. Both Bupa and BMI Healthcare had acquisition attempts foiled by the Competition Commission before Capio stepped in.
Huntleigh just recently acquired the leading hospital equipment manufacturer in South Africa. It has subsidiaries in the US and Australia and has a presence in Singapore, as well as plans to expand in the Middle East.
There is one other lawyer in Newbery’s department.
Huntleigh is publicly listed with a turnover of about £170m and about 2,000 staff.
