The Vale of White Horse District Council has launched High Court moves to curb the pig farming activities of one of Oxfordshire's oldest established pig producers. After complaints from the public about smells and pollution said to constitute a health hazard, the council is seeking a court order to restrict the activities of RJ Allen and Partners, of York Farm, West Hagbourne, Didcot. The farm in the case is Winterbrook Farm, Blewbury, Oxfordshire, where Allens has kept pigs since about 1952.

Four women whose husbands were killed almost two years ago in an air crash near the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland are suing the Ministry of Defence for compensation. Claims have been mounted by Elizabeth Biles, widow of Christopher Biles, of Shaftesbury, Dorset; Beverley Hornby, widow of Anthony Hornby, of Bloxworth, Dorset; Delyth Gregory-Smith, widow of Richard Gregory-Smith, of Guildford; and Jill Allen, widow of Richard Allen, of East Hagbourne, Didcot, Oxfordshire.

The Army Parachute Centre of Airfield Camp, Netheravon, Wiltshire, is being sued by a woman injured in an accident there on 5 June, 1993. Victoria Penney, of Shores Corner, Woking, has issued a High Court writ seeking damages. She claims that the accident was the result of the MoD's negligence.

Southern Electric is suing Thames Water Utilities for more than £140,000 after electric cables were damaged by a mechanical digger.

A Bromley mother who claims her son died shortly after birth because doctors failed to diagnose that they both had toxoplasmosis, a disease that is caught from cats, is suing the Portland Hospital for Women and Children, Brent and Harrow Health Authority, Professor Jonathan Wigglesworth, and Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust for damages. Laura Kleinschmidt is also claiming damages for negligence during her ante-natal care between January 1990 and late July 1990.
