In an interesting development for Norwich-based Mills & Reeve, the firm has launched a general practitioner (GP) services group.
The group is seeking to capitalise on the new General Medical Services (GMS) and Primary Medical Services (PMS) contracts, an unsexy-sounding but dramatic change to the way in which GP practices are funded, which Radcliffes LeBrasseur healthcare partner Stephen Janisch describes as “offering a world of new opportunities for go-ahead doctors”.
The three-lawyer team, led by associate Simon Elsegood, will specialise in new regulations in the sector, particularly new partnership agreements incorporating funding through the GMS and PMS contracts, and will also advise GPs on property, employment and supplier issues.
The new group is a branding exercise rather than a legal one. But hats off to Mills & Reeve; it has responded quickly to the new arrangements and could well have launched the very first GP practice at a major commercial law firm.
