Cuatrecasas has reshuffled its New York office management, bringing co-managing partners Víctor Xercavins and Javier Asensio back to Barcelona

Corporate partner Albert Garrofé will fly out to New York to take charge, supported by tax specialist Sonia Velsco.

Cuatrecasas rotates its New York office management every three and a half years, as responsibilities are often more entrepreneurial than legal.

Xercavins said: “If you were to spend 10 years out there for example, you would be a great asset for the firm but no longer a corporate and M&A lawyer.”

The move comes after Latham & Watkins opened talks with Cuatrecasas’ Barcelona corporate partner Jose Luis Blanco for the launch of its first Spanish office.

Xercavins denied the return to Barcelona was connected with the Blanco’s talks with Latham.
