BLP handed Bank of Scotland mandate

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has acted for Bank of Scotland Corporate on its £460m refinancing of Kandahar Real Estate. The refinancing included arranging a facility of up to £212m for the Drake Circus Shopping Centre in Plymouth and further loans of approximately £249m for around 40 other retail and restaurant properties across the UK. The BLP team acting on the deal was led by real estate finance partners Simon Kildahl and Laurence Rogers. On the commercial real estate side, partners Catherine Cook and Franc Pena acted, while the tax aspects of the transaction were managed by partner Charles Goddard. On the opposite side of the table, Kandahar, which is a joint venture between Morgan Stanley and the Kandahar Trust, received advice from Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker partner Keith Wilson. He was assisted by associates Andrew Hughes, Sam Grutchfield, Maria De Rienza and Patrick Johnson. Clyde & Co and Bond Pearce provided real estate title reports to Kandahar, while KPMG gave tax advice.
