WilmerHale ;has revamped ;its ;firmwide structure to create additional categories within its associate and partner ranks.

Previously the only titles available were associate, counsel and partner. The firm has now created the posts of senior associate and special counsel.

The firm has also introduced a new senior partner designation for partners nearing retirement, along with the title of senior counsel for former partners who are beyond WilmerHale’s normal retirement age but who are still practising.

WilmerHale co-managing partner Bill Perlstein said the move is aimed at increasing flexibility and allowing greater scope for career choices.

“For example, the senior associate role has been designed to recognise that six years is a long time in one role without a change of seniority,” said Perlstein.
