Lovells triumphs on nine-year pro bono case

Lovells has won a criminal injuries claim for a pro bono client nine years after the client’s husband was killed by their mentally incapacitated son. The client, who has pursued a claim for criminal injuries compensation since 1995, was originally denied an award. Lovells lawyer David Vince and trainee David Hartley assisted an oral hearing of the Criminal Injuries Appeals Panel, where the panel awarded more than £300,000. Lovells believes this case is the first fatal dependency claim in England that has reached oral hearing under the new criminal compensation scheme.
