Cameron McKenna is continuing its global expansion by opening an office in Canada – only the fourth foreign firm to do so.
The decision to move into the North American market comes on the back of Camerons successful pitch to advise on the reorganisation of one of the world's largest energy corporations, Ontario Hydro. The firm is expected to make a formal announcement at the end of the week. Camerons is to recruit several lawyers to staff the Toronto-based office.
However, the firm will have to tread carefully over the precise nature of the set-up to ensure it conforms with strict Canadian regulations that do not permit foreign firms to practice Canadian law.
The Ontario Hydro deal saw the firm win a highly lucrative contract from under the noses of local firms.
The contract involves restructure the state-owned company to prepare for its “commercialisation”.
The firm was selected its successful reorganisation of the Californian electricity sector.
