PETER BROOKS, whose ruthless reputation earned him the sobriquet Prince of Darkness, has left his £1m job as general counsel at Deutsche Bank.
Brooks, who was previously head of corporate finance at Clifford Chance, had been considering leaving the bank for some time.
It is understood his role as general counsel changed considerably following the restructuring of the Deutsche Bank group last April. Deutsche's merger with Bankers Trust may have affected his final decision to leave.
Brooks, 51, joined what was then Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in 1996 for a salary rumoured to be £1m.
Fritz Link, managing director and general counsel of Deutsche Bank North America in New York, has taken over Brooks' duties for the time being.
Brooks was on holiday in Florida when The Lawyer went to press.
