A mother of nine whose tenth child was born without clinical signs of life but was resuscitated to survive for a year is suing a health authority for damages. Margaret Cummings, 46, of South Croydon, has issued a High Court writ claiming damages from Croydon Health Authority. It says she was admitted to the Mayday Hospital in Croydon on 25 September 1988 with premature rupture of the membranes in the 26th week of pregnancy, and after moving to the Whittington Hospital, London N19, was discharged on 3 October. She was readmitted to the Mayday Hospital on 9 October 1988 and on 14 October underwent an emergency caesarean section, when her son, Travis, was born without signs of life. Although he did survive birth, he died on 28 November 1989.

A Wisbech school boy, Matthew Plummer, seriously injured in a 1994 accident involving a school bus, has issued a High Court writ claiming damages from the trustees of the Wisbech Grammar School Foundation. The writ blames the accident on alleged negligence by the school trustees.

Jamie Perkins, of Ashford, Middlesex, has issued a High Court writ against Surrey County Council, claiming damages for loss and damage suffered as a result of the council's alleged negligence as local education authority responsible for his education from January 1993.

A High Court writ has been issued in London by the BBC against Alan Read and SD Read, both of Chew Stoke, Bristol. The BBC is seeking damages from the Reads, along with a declaration that the BBC and its employees are legally entitled to pass and repass with or without vehicles along land in Ubley, Somerset, near Breach Hill Farm and Ubley Park Farm.

Leeds company Ashdale Food Co faces High Court action to stop it selling food which is past its sell-by date. Lion Foods, of Runcorn, Cheshire, has issued a High Court writ against the company. The lines at the centre of the row are "garlic ambient dips" and "yogurt and cucumber ambient dips".
