Telia general counsel Jan-Henrik Ahrnell is to head the Telia-Sonera legal department following the largest Nordic merger in history.
Sweden's Telia launched its offer to Sonera shareholders two weeks ago and looks set to dominate the new partnership. Telia's legal department outnumbers Sonera's department, with 55 lawyers to Sonera's 20.
The merger will spark a scramble among law firms competing for work from the combined company.Telia's main law firm in Sweden is Slaughter and May best friend Mannheimer Swartling. The firm also instructed Linklaters on the Sonera deal and Hannes Snellman in Finland. White & Case has a longstanding relationship with Sonera, advising it on the Telia deal and a number of other M&A transactions. Telia has also used Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom for international work.
