The cuddly characters from the judiciary feel it would be wrong to support a ministry that is supposed to uphold the law when the creation of the MoJ department itself may be constitutionally unsound.
So they left the champagne swigging to Charlie Falconer and his prison wardens.
Perhaps the judges feel the choice of name for the department gives off Orwellian vibes.
For those of you who can’t remember their GCSE reading list, the Ministry of Peace organised perpetual armed conflict, the Ministry of Love engaged in torture and the Ministry of Truth told lies.
