Macfarlanes (Charles Meek) acted for Sand Aire Investments on the £93.6m flotation of Moneybox, a company which runs ATMs in pubs and shops around the country. Sand Aire has retained its interest in the company. Olswang advised Moneybox.
Osborne Clarke (Greg Leyshon) advised 3i on its £25m investment into Microsulis, the UK-based medical research company. Hammonds (Ged O’Neill) represented Microsulis. The deal is thought to be one of the largest venture capital investments so far this year.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (David Crook) acted for UK investment firm Terra Firma in the £227.5m acquisition of Shanks Group, the UK landfill and related power operations company. The deal was closed after an auction fight between Terra Firma and Pennon Group. Shanks Group was represented by Ashurst (Michael Johns).
Ashurst (Simon Beddow) is representing the management and biggest employee shareholders of global football brand Umbro on its initial public offering. Lovells (Richard Brown, Alison Hampton) is advising the company.
Ashurst (David Evans) advised Citigroup on a joint venture in Spain with iO Lar Grosvenor worth more than €100m (£66.4m). The deal related to the development of industrial estates within the Iberian peninsular.
Allen and Overy (Roderic Cork, Vikki Greatorex) advised Bulgarian investment vehicle Bidco on the acquisition of 40 per cent of Bulgarian mobile telecoms operator MobilTel Holding in a deal reportedly worth €1.2bn (£796.9m). Haarman Hemmelrath & Partner (Bernd Sagasser) acted for MobilTel.
