Clifford ;Chance ;has permanently relocated London capital markets partner Anthony Oldfield to the Brazilian city, while Linklaters has launched an aggressive recruitment drive to bulk up in the region.
Oldfield, who is currently on secondment to Clifford Chance’s New York office, will head the firm’s 25-strong São Paulo office.
He said: “Our priority is maintaining the range of practice areas we have in the region and making sure we have the right lawyers in terms of experience and language.”
Linklaters, which has an association with Brazilian firm Lefosse Advogados, is actively recruiting in New York and London for its Brazil office.
Partner Ray Fisher, who is leading the firm’s push in Brazil, said: “We want to build up in capital markets and corporate and we want to be sure we have US and UK capabilities. This is being driven out of our London and New York offices.”
