is grooming the next generation of leaders as part of a revamped global strategy following the closure of its Mannheim office this week.
Shearman New York M&A partner and member of the global strategy group, Creighton Condon, explained resources will be drawn from the younger partners of the firm to perform a variety of managerial roles.
Condon, said: “There aren’t going to be any more management changes for the firm. We have completed the planned management rotation. There will be some additional resources added below the management committee and the new committees we have created. We want to incorporate younger partners and nurture them for a variety of managerial roles.”
While positions and roles have not yet been defined a key goal of the new management team is to strengthen grass roots at Shearman and give more management responsibilities to younger lawyers in the network.
The US firm announced its management revamp last week (18 April) reducing the size of the international executive from six to three with senior partner Rohan Weerasinghe and Kim Gardner being joined by bankruptcy partner, Fred Sosnick who has taken up the role of management team coordinator.
Despite widespread speculation following the closure of its Mannheim office this week, Creighton denied rumours in the market that the firm is embarking on a large scale restructuring of its global offices.
Earlier this week (22 April) The Lawyer reported on the 30-lawyer splitting from the firm to create independent firm, Schilling Zutt & Anshutz. Creighton said the split between the firms was amicable but declined to comment further.
Creighton said: “In Europe our plans have not changed at all. The practice areas we have always focused on will be the same internationally. This has been consistent for a number of years.”
Creighton added that the firm has experienced an uptick in activity in the Middle East. The firm plans to draw on its European and US resources to support the firm in the region.
