Herbert Smith’s German ally Gleiss Lutz has raided Cologne firm Cornelius Bartenbach Haesemann & Partners, which is currently in talks to form an alliance with Eversheds.
Intellectual property (IP) partner Michael Trimborn has left Cornelius Bartenbach and will start at Gleiss on 1 May.
After his position is formalised, Trimborn will join Gleiss’ parent office in Stuttgart, taking the partner number there to 34. His practice is understood to be similar to that of Stuttgart-based IP partner Thomas Bopp and the two will work closely together.
Trimborn has been at Cornelius Bartenbach for the past eight years and focuses on unfair competition, pharmaceuticals and patent work. Cornelius Bartenbach has a strong national reputation for its IP practice.
As revealed by The Lawyer last week, Eversheds is understood to be in the final stages of negotiations to establish an alliance with the Mittelstand firm.
