Bar Council fails to act against barrister stalker

Lawyers and women's organisations are criticising the Bar Council for not disciplining a barrister who was convicted of stalking and who breached a restraining order.

Justin Webster, formerly of Hardwicke Building, admitted in January he harassed Bosmath Sheffi of 9 King's Bench Walk.

He was sentenced to a conditional discharge and a restraining order was issued against him. But he continued to harass Sheffi and was committed to hospital for a week under the Mental Health Act (The Lawyer, 3 May).

Lawyers say Webster is still representing clients and that he has not been disciplined by the Bar Council.

One barrister says: “I would be disgusted with my professional body if they did not do anything.”
