Dorsey & Whitney builds on Asian expansion with Freshfields hire in China

US firm Dorsey & Whitney has poached corporate and M&A lawyer Richard Yao from the Shanghai office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and has promised more lateral hires in a bid to bolster the firm’s presence in China.

Dorsey continues its Asian expansion following the hire of Japanese corporate finance lawyer Takashi Suzuki from Mori Hamada & Matsumoto last month.

“We are experiencing heavy client demands for M&A activities in China and we want to meet such demands by hiring the top talent from the market in China,” said Alex Zhang, the head of the Greater China practice and co-chair of the firm’s Asia practice group.

Yao joins the Minneapolis-based firm as a senior lawyer in its China practice group, based in Shanghai.
