Bristows loses IP team to start-up boutique

Bristows is bracing itself for the departure of a five partner IP litigation team, who are leaving to set up their own boutique.

The partners are serving out their notice period, which ends in March next year.

Pat Treacy, Bristows joint managing partner, said: “We’re sorry that they’re leaving but we still feel Bristows will maintain its position as a premier IP practice.”

“It’s business. Things change and we’re not scared of the future,” she added.

Leaving the firm are partners Penny Gilbert, Tim Powell, Simon Ayrton, Zoe Butler and Alex Wilson. All specialise in patent litigation, with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical sector.

Tim Powell is the most senior member of the group, having made partner in 1997. Zoe Butler and Alex Wilson made partner in 2004.
