Bryan Bennett has launched High Court action against his former employers, Chep UK of Addlestone, Surrey, accusing the company of negligence. An accident happened on 20 February this year after Bennett, 35, put his head into a waste reducing machine to clear a blockage. The writ says he removed a piece of wood blocking the crusher but as he did so another employee turned the machine on again without checking whether it was safe.

Top mountain bike manufacturer, Muddy Fox (UK), has launched a £3 million High Court compensation claim following a fire at its Dewsbury factory earlier this year. The company is suing Economic Insurance Co in respect of the blaze at its Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate premises during the night of 26 June.

A widow is being sued by Lloyds Bank for more than £0.25 million said to have been owed by her late husband. The bank has launched High Court action claiming £251,955 from Brigitte Friese-Green of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It is also seeking an injunction restraining her from removing assets out of England and Wales.

A Battle woman who claims she lost out on her father's will through a solicitor's negligence is suing for compensation. Truda Proctor, of Brays Hill Farm, Ashburham, Battle, East Sussex, has issued a High Court writ claiming damages from Clifford Maybury, of 34a, High Street, Crawley, West Sussex. Proctor claims Maybury, who practises as CM Maybury, prepared a will for her father, the late Edward Courtenay-Southam, in October 1980.

The Commission for the New Towns has issued a writ against Craig and Natarja Boulter, of Longwood Equestrian Centre, Dry Street, Basildon, accusing them of being in breach of their lease. The writ says in June this year the Boulters took out a 20-year lease from the commission on 8.1 hectares of land and buildings at the centre but claims that in breach of the terms of the lease the Boulters have begun to build a third outdoor arena at the centre.
