Niche City firm Silverman Sherliker has appointed the former legal director of Associated British Ports (ABP).
Andrew Whittaker was previously solicitor and company secretary at London Electricity and will bring several large clients in the electricity industry field with him.
His appointment as consultant to the five-partner firm coincides with its move into bigger premises as part of an expansion plan. Silverman Sherliker specialises in software and utilities work and is well-regarded in this sector.
Senior partner Jonathan Silverman says: “We have taken on Andrew because in order to grow we have to have interesting specialisms and a number of our clients are involved on the edges of the electricity industry. This seemed a unique chance to take on someone with an in-depth knowledge.”
Whittaker, who has worked in-house for the last 15 years, says: “The partners have deliberately set out to create a practice. This is genuinely client-oriented which is probably why it has been so successful in attracting a number of important US clients.”
Whittaker will join as a consultant but says that if the arrangement works then he will join the partnership.
Whittaker left ABP after only a month when a boardroom coup saw the managing director, personnel director and Whittaker ousted.
