West End firm Mishcon de Reya has created two new positions in the pathway to partnership following an 18-month review of its career structure.

The role of legal director has been created as a precursor to partnership and the firm has introduced a formal associate role.

Until now lawyers at the firm, which has a small partnership of 55, progressed from trainee to assistant to partner, with the firm making just one or two promotions each year.

Managing partner Kevin Gold said: “The creation of the new structure and roles allows every lawyer to meet their full potential by giving each of them the opportunity to develop their skills and expertise at each stage of their career.”

Four people have been promoted to the legal director role, which will focus on the development of existing business rather than the generation of new business.
