A whole industrial estate of law firms made the pages of the Financial Times (FT) on the weekend of 23-24 September) when the paper did a round-up of prime commercial property sites up for grabs.

Simmons & Simmons featured as Citypoint came on the market for £520m; Baker Botts and Bingham McCutchen both featured in the £115m sale of 41 Lothbury; while One New Change’s £600m redevelopment was also prominent. Sadly, Allen & Overy wasn’t.

Still, at least its omission spared it the ignominy of a certain transatlantic powerhouse currently housed at the Gherkin. As the FT reported: “Tenants include Coutts, Mayer and law firms Brown, Rowe & Maw and Kirkland & Ellis.” What will Paul Maher think?
And no Watson Burton? Tulkinghorn can ask the partners why they didn’t feature at the Newcastle firm’s London office launch party this Thursday (5 October). It is assumed recently ejected senior partner Andrew Hoyle won’t be attending.
