Clients flock to lessons on New Labour

City firms are briefing clients on how to cope with what is expected to be a more interventionist approach from the new Labour government.

At a seminar on the day election results were announced, Theodore Goddard tax partner Peter Sayer predicted a window of opportunity for companies before a business tax rise at the next budget, which is likely to be in June.

Clifford Chance seminars, held in the run up to the election, were heavily oversubscribed. Richard Thomas, director of the public policy unit, said that there had been “massive interest”.
