Rip-off firms given warning by Audit Office

The National Audit Office last week issued a report calling on the Legal Services Commission (LSC) to remove firms that ignored warnings about overcharging clients. The report into community legal service expenditure found that 35 per cent of civil legal aid firms in England and Wales were overcharging clients by more than 20 per cent. The LSC has the authority to ban firms from doing publicly funded work, but the process takes at least 18 months.
