Gravely embarrassing

You can take the man out of the law, but you can never take the law out of the man – and here's the proof. A former Slaughter and May lawyer recently attended the funeral of his grandmother, which, of course, is very sad.

However, for some inexplicable reason, while standing around the grave, this former lawyer was waving his mobile phone around, no doubt trying to impress the vicar or something.

Anyway, when it came to the part where everyone chucks a bit of earth on the coffin, this eejit accidentally threw his mobile in the grave. Now most people would probably shuffle off in embarrassment, but not this guy. He attempted to fish the phone out with a spade. Whether lawyers are trained in this type of behaviour is not quite clear, although Tulkinghorn is quite sure that his poor dead granny was literally spinning in her grave.
