Hackney Council hires law director

A former solicitor of Brighton & Hove City Council has joined Hackney Council as its director of law and probity.

Claer Lloyd-Jones's first task is to establish a panel of firms, including at least one national firm, and chambers. She hopes to make Hackney Council's current outsourcing system more formal. “Work is outsourced in a random and ad-hoc fashion,” she said. “We anticipate we will have fewer external suppliers than we currently use.
“We want all firms and chambers to approach the work on a policy basis. Firms must add value such as support and training for all my staff.”
The outsourced work will include employment, procurement work in terms of outsourcing and partnership arrangements, right-to-buy, and civil litigation.
