Herbies wins croydon planning permission

In what is sure to be a kick in the teeth for rival firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), Herbert Smith has helped clients Schroders and Stanhope to secure planning permission for the Croydon Gateway project in south London. Described by the Secretary of State, who approved the deal, as “a landmark development of world-class quality and function”, Schroders and Stanhope’s Foster & Partners-designed project was chosen over a rival scheme by Arrowroot, advised by a BLP team led by London real estate partner Ian Treherne.

Herbert Smith’s planning team, led by partner Matthew White, has been advising Schroders and Stanhope on their proposals to redevelop the 10-acre site next to East Croydon station since 2002.
