Manchester House faces exodus crisis

The future of Manchester House Chambers is in doubt following a mass exodus of tenants to rival sets.

This follows a breakdown in merger negotiations with Queens Chambers earlier this year.

Protracted talks between the two sets have led to the verge of merging but the last two months have seen 16 barristers depart for rival chambers.

This leaves the set with only five remaining tenants.

Three tenants, Arthur Stuttard, Brian Jones and Rachel Woods are going to Queens Chambers, which is also being joined by Michael Cohen from Old Colony House Chambers and Kate Akerman from Regency Chambers.

Four tenants, Simon Vaughan, Karim Sabry, Graham Bailey and Andrew Clark have all joined rival Manchester set 8 King Street Chambers.

All the others have also moved to neighbouring Manchester sets.
