London-based boutique Trinity International has made its first-ever partner promotion with the addition of corporate lawyer Conrad Marais.

Marais’ promotion brings the total number of partners at the emerging markets-focused firm to four.

The eight-lawyer firm recruited Marais three years ago from Morgan Lewis & Bockius.

Trinity partner Simon Norris said: “Conrad was our first recruit so it’s very exciting. We want to grow the firm but we’re doing this very cautiously.

“Hiring into a small team has a real impact and we’re very careful about how we do this.”

Earlier this year the firm hired associate Kaushik Ray from Allen & Overy.

Trinity, which has focused on the projects and infrastructure market in Africa, is now developing ties with Central and Eastern European clients.

Norris commented: “It’s been very interesting to see how different markets have opened up for us. Africa is crucial to our business but we’ve done quite a few deals in other jurisdictions.”
