Clyde & Co corporate partner Tim Matthews has joined the London office of US firm WilmerHale. He arrives as a partner in the corporate group and will work under UK head of corporate Joe Pillman. The hire increases the size of WilmerHale’s London corporate offering by a third, bringing the number of City partners to three.

Mayer Brown has appointed Karen Abbott as head of insurance and reinsurance in London. She takes over from London senior partner Sean Connolly, who remains a partner at the insurance group.

Covington & Burling has raided Taylor Wessing for life sciences partner Daniel Pavin. He was previously an IP partner in the London office of Taylor Wessing.

Woodfines has bolstered its Cambridge office with the hire of trusts, tax and estates ­partner Alun Butler from Taylor Vinters, where he was an equity partner and head of the trusts team.

Midlands and Wales

Shakespeare Putsman has recruited Wragge & Co partner Ian Yule. He joins the Birmingham construction team as a partner. 

Browne Jacobson has promoted four to the position of associate. They are Nick Mackenzie and Stephen Howe in business services, and Rachael Morris and Helen Rideout in insurance and public risk.

Reading-based patent lawyer Daryl Penny has been promoted to partner at Boult Wade Tennant.

Michael Imperato, head of personal injury at Cardiff-based Russell Jones & Walker, has been appointed to the national executive committee of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Leo Abse & Cohen has boosted its Cardiff family law team with the hire of assistant Matthew Johnson from Keith Evans and the ­appointment of Marie Harrison as a full-time paralegal.

Halliwells has appointed 13 senior associates and 13 associates in its annual round of internal promotions. The new senior associates are: ­Elizabeth Ferrie, Emlyn Hudson, Steve Keall, James Lappin, Deidrie McGeown, Hazel ­Monaghan, Giles Searby, Andrew Steel and ­Brenda Wright in the dispute resolution ­department; John Fleming and Paul Hilton in ­corporate recovery; Paul King in corporate; and Melanie Wilkinson in business services.

Hammonds has appointed three new heads for its European practice. Rafael Alonson becomes head of the Spanish practice, taking over from Francisco Guijarro; in Germany, Kai Mertens takes over from Frank Walter-von Gierke; and Christopher Wilde becomes head of the French practice, succeeding Christian Hausmann.

Romanian firm Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii has raided CMS Cameron McKenna to hire of Mihai Dudoiu as a managing associate in its banking practice.

Stanislav Kovar has left the Slovakian office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a corporate partner, to join Schoenherr as a local partner in Bratislava.

White & Case has transferred London finance partner Kate Allchurch to Singapore, where she will join the finance and restructuring practice.

US

Covington & Burling has hired George Frampton as counsel in its clean energy and climate industry group. He was previously ­chairman of Barack Obama’s transition team for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

 Lois Herzeca has joined Gibson Dunn & Crutcher’s New York office as a partner. Herzeca, who was previously with Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, will continue her corporate law practice.

Stephen Allen has been appointed as ­commercial director at The 360 Legal Group, which provides professional services to law firms. Allen co-founded the Clarity Legal Group and is a former chief executive of 7 Bedford Row.
