Christmas cheer for organist

It will be a happy Christmas for former Bar Council chair Guy Mansfield after a negligence case fell through and an even happier one for some bloke from Croydon who has scored a stunning court victory over Procul Harum.

The wheels of justice move slowly, but not as slowly as the former Procul Harum organist Matthew Fisher, who took 40 years to bring his claim for royalties from the band’s biggest hit A Whiter Shade of Pale.

However, Fisher won’t be getting a huge Christmas payout from one of the best-selling singles of all time. He’ll only be getting royalties from May 2005 – the date when he first made the claim. Still, not bad for playing a bit of Bach.
