Financing has been secured for a new international programme creating 10 alternative dispute resolution tribunals in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro over the next four years.
The International Finance Corporation-coordinated project will make a pilot tribunal in Bosnia permanent, hav- ing been given $600,000 (£317,600) by the Canadian government. The World Bank agency also intends to establish a Serb arbitration tribunal in the next 12 months.
Project manager Alexan-der Paine said mediation was “a new concept of dispute settlement to the region… providing small and medium enterprises with a cheaper and faster alternative to courts.”
His team has helped write mediation laws in Bosnia and Serbia, coordinated training for 130 mediators and organised two successful pilots in Banja Luka and Belgrade.
