KSB Law’s turnover fell by 2 per cent last year to £8m, down from £8.2m at the end of 2005-06. This was due to the end of the revenue stream generated by the firm’s volume personal injury practice, which was wound down in 2004 in preparation for the firm converting to LLP status. Without that income, the firm claimed that 2005-06 turnover would have been £7.9m. Employment, one of the 17-partner firm’s two major practice areas, recorded a rise in turnover of 12.5 per cent, while real estate’s turnover fell by approximately the same percentage. This was the result of some particularly significant deals in the 2005-06 year for Warner Estates that accounted for a surge in revenue of more than 20 per cent, but failed to be matched in 2006-07. At press time KSB was in merger talks with £32m-turnover Davies Arnold Cooper, a deal that would create a £40m firm. KSB managing partner Ken Smith predicted this will grow to £42m by the end of the 2007-08 financial year, although if the merger goes ahead in September as planned, the KSB name will be no more.
