South East firm Thomas Eggar has split its management functions into separate strategic and operational arms.
Managing partner Tony Edwards will sit on the members’ council, which will be responsible for the firm’s strategy, and will also chair the operations group.
Edwards said the arrangement “is a different look to the way the board operates” because previously it had been difficult to ensure priorities between the operational and the strategic.
He compared it to the difficulty in prioritising between a matter marked ‘urgent and important’ and one marked ‘important and urgent’.
Although there are currently some teething problems in communication with the new structure, Edwards expects that these will be ironed out soon.
The members’ council is made up of six members, while the operations group includes the heads of finance, HR and the operations director who liaise with the firm’s seven practice group heads.
