DLA hires GM GC to boost Chinese operations

DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has hired the former general counsel of Shanghai General Motors as a partner in its Shanghai office.

Henry Wang is a US qualified lawyer with in depth experience of China’s motor industry. He also has experience in M&A, joint ventures or wholly foreign owned entities, IP, corporate financing, dispute resolution, employment and real estate.

Nick Seddon, Asia managing director of DLA Piper said: “DLA Piper’s commitment to Asia and our strong growth in this region is demonstrated by key appointments such as Wang’s. We will continue to invest in our people as we are committed to providing clients with the best lawyers who have a passion for providing a quality service.”

DLA Piper has three offices in China, Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with more than 100 lawyers. The firm grew rapidly in the region last year thanks in part to its raid on Coudert’s China practice including China chief Jingzhou Tao and at least 20 lawyers.
