Latham & Watkins has hired the former general counsel of Asia Global Crossing’s Japanese operations for its corporate team in Tokyo

US qualified Colin Jones worked in private practice at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett before joining the now bankrupt telecoms company. He joins Latham as of counsel.
Tokyo managing partner David Shapiro said: “Colin’s overall experience and depth of experience in US corporate and securities matters will strengthen our capabilities in the corporate area.”
The firm has been expanding its presence in the region, growing from two lawyers in 2000, to the current 12 lawyers. This includes three Japanese qualified lawyers through the firm’s joint venture.
